About Us......
Holyport Football Club was originally founded in the 1920’s or early 1930’s and was re-founded after the Second World War in 1956. The current Honorary Vice Chairman, Norman House originally played for the Club and was their Captain for a period until he retired in the late 1960’s. He has now been associated with the club for a total of 50 years and together with Club Chairman, Tony Andrews and his son Jason, the three of them have almost 100 years of combined service. Norman still attends the occasional match and has a keen interest in the Club.
After the club was re-founded the team played in the Maidenhead and District League and the home ground was in the Windsor Road, Bray. On leaving that league the club joined the Hayes and Giles League where they played their home games at Braywick Park. After three very successful seasons, Holyport were promoted to the Hellenic League Division 1 East at the beginning of the 2002/2003 season where they have finished 15th, 17th, 15th, 14th and 9th in respective seasons.
The club no longer play home matches within the parish as four seasons ago saw them move to their new ground – ‘Summerleaze Village’ in North Maidenhead.
At the start 2005/06 the Club merged with Burnham Seniors who were looking to move into senior football. As Holyport were looking to increase the number of players and field a team in the Hellenic League Division 2 it was a perfect solution for both clubs. The current squad is drawn from both clubs. Since this merger Holyport have gone from strength to strength both on and off the field.
On the field the first team are continuing on from their highest ever finish in the Hellenic League Division One East last season to record their highest ever finish this season. This with an average first team age of just 22 Years old, who under the watchful eye of coaches Tom Donati and Martin Ireland have made great strides. The reserve team not to be out done also finished in their highest position last season – 3rd, this in only their second season.
Off the field improvements are happening all of the time; this season has seen planning permission granted for a second tier to be added to the changing rooms. These will be in place for the beginning of next season. The pitch has also been fenced off, allowing for further improvements to be made to the ground. When you read this Holyport should be playing games under floodlights, March saw the much anticipated floodlights arrive. This is all down to our loyal sponsors, Mars, Bourne End Auctions, The Jasmine and Domenico's. Special thanks go to the Football Foundation, The Football Association, Michael Shanley Charitable Trust and of course our main sponsors Roger & Jean Coombs (Thakrar Coombs & Co.), Peter Prior and Summerleaze.
With the ever improving ground developments and depending on the first team’s final league position, entry into the FA Vase next season is a real possibility. This would be a major achievement for the ever ambitious Holyport Football Club. Exciting times beckon….
